August 9th to 12th Luxembourg

August 9th, 2015

Luxembourg!   WOW!   Built on a valley, I did a LOT of hills on this stop over!   There is a beautiful castle like structure built all along the sides of the valley called the Bock Casemates, which was created to protect the city and is built in conjunction with the existing stone.   Luxembourg City is a very clean and notably well off city.  The hostel was incredibly modern, clean and with many amenities, but was quite pricey! I didn’t do much today, but as you can see the climb I had to make every time I left the hostel was quite a hike!

Hoping you can see the steep incline I had to hike up to the city center! It was about 2 km like this.

Do you see it as a climb up or down?

August 10th to 12th, 2015

Really took it easy in these few days, as there is not a ton to see here, more just taking in the beauty and enjoying it rather then rush around.  I did another Tinder date with a fellow named Sebastian, who has lived here over 20 yrs, but insists I’m specific that he is French, not Luxembourgish and not rich. (apparently if you are FROM Luxembourg it is likely that you are) He works in banking which is fairly prominent here, and has 2 daughters, it seems that custody issues and fathers rights are not so different here then Canada sadly.   They do have their own language called Luxembourgish and it is taught in school for the first few years.   Most people here spoke French, but all knew English and were super helpful.   A few pic’s from my adventure here:

Maybe why I’m a bit fluffier on my travels! was like Joey’s lava cake but in a vanilla crème fresh type sauce!

If you zoom into the circular part you can see the mix of man made into the natural stone.

Really a stunning city! So clean and tidy and manicured!

The streets in the centre are narrow and cobble stone

Sebastian who was a great tour guide, giving much of the history of Luxembourg. Including that the founder of ‘one Europe’ idea was from here!
